Miswak: what it is and how to use it

Miswak, also called siwak, is a tooth-cleaning stick traditionally made from the Salvadora persica tree. It has long been used in different regions and can be a practical option for mechanically cleaning tooth surfaces. Products vary by origin, processing and storage, so read the label of the product you buy.

What does “natural toothbrush” mean?

The phrase describes miswak’s traditional form and origin; it does not mean every product is suitable for everyone or replaces every other oral-care measure. Clinical research mainly examines dental plaque and gum health, and study methods and quality vary.

How to use it carefully

Follow the package directions. If the product is intended to have its tip prepared, remove only the part indicated by the manufacturer and use gentle movements without pressing hard on teeth or gums. Do not share a stick. Stop if you experience pain, bleeding or irritation and ask a dentist for advice.

Miswak in a daily routine

General guidance includes regular brushing with fluoride toothpaste and cleaning between teeth. Talk to your dentist if you want to use miswak as an additional tool, especially if you have braces, dental work, sensitive gums or an oral condition.

Order Miswak products with courier delivery throughout Romania, including Bucharest. See national delivery and our FAQs.
